E. R. Speiser

E. R. (Elhanan) Speiser translates and edits nonfiction, history, and ideas between Hebrew and English. He has translated more than twenty books into Hebrew, including works by the historians Niall Ferguson, Victor Davis Hanson, Allen C. Guelzo, and Barry Strauss, the writer and commentator Douglas Murray, and U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance. He heads the translated literature list at Sella Meir, an Israeli publishing house.
He is a commentator on foreign affairs and American politics for Makor Rishon, and writes long-form features on history, politics, and culture. He founded Ne'emanim LaMakor, the paper's weekly news podcast, and hosted it in 2023–24.
He is an advanced research student in the History Department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he studies antislavery in the American South before the Civil War, and a research assistant on a project on 19th-century American journalism led by Prof. Menahem Blondheim. The two are currently co-writing a book on the history of the United States.
